A passing thought

“Happy Birthday, have a wonderful year ahead!”, I wished my friend. Hot summer night called me on the terrace for some cool breeze. After a walk, sat on the bench looking at the beautiful moon with the gathering of stars around.

What a wonderful time we spent together, I thought remembering my friend whom I just wished. Gosh! She completed 26 yrs today which also means I am 26 yrs old next month!..... As usual, the same question I asked myself “What have you done in these years”. A voice inside me proudly said you grew up as a princess, completed your academic education, working for a prestigious company, have a wonderful husband and a sweet family. What else you want? Yes, what else I want, I asked myself. After a couple of minutes the other voice inside me said ‘Don’t you think everybody or rather many atleast have these? These are all gift of God and nothing special about you. But, “What have you done that others have not done?” The first voice justified that ‘you have done everything that needs to be done at your age, what else you need to do”? The second voice again asked the same question “What have you done that others have not done?”

Hmmm, the second voice always has a valid point. Many-a-times it asks me the same question but I am afraid, I don’t have an answer yet. Hope I will find the answer some day and sooner the better!

A trip to Bangaluru

Girija got down at Bangaluru bus station and joined the long queue outside the pre-paid auto counter; she gave a rupee in the counter and asked for a ticket to‘Jayanagar’. She double checked the amount which she has to pay and calculated that the amount showed Rs. 7 more than what she had paid the last time she visited. She got into the auto only to hear the driver say ‘one and a half aagatte madam’. Before she could reply, the auto started.

Meena, her daughter’s friend welcomed her and introduced her to 2 more friends. Girija was served with snacks and a cup of coffee. After the casual talk with the youngsters, Girija was all set to take in charge of the kitchen for the next few days of her stay. While the aroma of ‘Saaru’ (rasam) was spreading all over the room, Neha entered. Later, every thing under the sun was the topic of discussion between mother and daughter for the next 2 hours.

Meena and Neha had a long list of ‘to do’ and ‘go to' with Girija as it was a week end. ‘Go to’ list for the next 2 days included Indira Gandhi musical fountain, Nalli silks, food at MTR and last but not the least a movie in PVR.

After the movie, the 2 girls took Girija to every other shop in the Forum mall, though the purchase was limited only to a T-shirt in west side. Later, as expected CafĂ©-coffee day had an open invitation to the gals. Neha ordered a ‘Coffee day special with extra cream’ and Meena ‘Tropical ice berg’. As Girija glanced the menu card, she had no choice but to decide on a coffee which ranged between Rs.45 and Rs.175. (plus taxes). Girija settled for a ‘cappuccino’ (off course, thinking that the same amount would buy them Idly, Vada and Dosa along with the coffee)

On the way back home, Neha was exited to see Shilpa (her collogue) along with her boy friend, Brijesh. Neha introduced them to Girija and Meena.

Night, on the dinning table, Neha spoke more about Shilpa and Brijesh. She said, the couple will be out for a movie, for a mall, for shopping every week end; they will talk to each other almost every 10 mins and Shilpa will update Brijesh about all the happenings around her; Shilpa remembers him 24/7; Happily, she even added, Shilpa will never do anything (even of her liking) without Brijesh’s approval because he does not like her going against his wishes. At last, Neha ended the conversation by saying ‘Wow! What a couple, lucky they are….”

After 2 days, Girija said, time to go. Neha and Meena dropped her in the railway station and wished her a happy and safe journey.

One fine day, in the midst of her work, Neha realized that it was long time speaking to her mother. She called Girija. After half an hour on the call, Neha updated her mother about Shilpa. She said ‘they broke up’!!.... Girija after few seconds replied ‘All that matters in life is trust, love and understanding and not movie, mall and shopping…. All that matters in life is a few minutes of talk which show cases care and concern and not hours of talk….. All that matters in life is remembering a person as soon as you wake up and before going to sleep and not 24/7…. Girija added ‘Shilpa should have done things with Brijesh’s approval only if she liked not going against his wishes” and not because he did not like her going against his wishes!!!!....

After the call, Neha turned on the FM radio and the song ‘Humhe tumse pyaar kitna, yeh hum nahin jaanthe…. Magar jee nahin sakte tumhare bina’ was played.

A Bliss

I was chatting with my friend in cafeteria; she casually mentioned that she was forgetting a lot off late and was obviously not very happy about the same.

She was right, but in my opinion attimes ‘Forgetfulness’ is bliss!!.... I tell you, world would not be the same if people remembered every thing and every day.

What if I remember the day when I had a fight with my dad? (A person who always is soft spoken and caring for me), What if I remember the day when I went to school without doing my homework?, What if I remember the day when I got less marks than my friend/competator?, What if I remember the day when I was not selected in an interview?, What if I remember the day when my dear uncle met with a fatal accident?, What if I remember the day when my sweet granny departed us?, What if I remember the day when I acted stupid(off course without my knowledge) and fought/blamed my husband without any reason and then realized I was wrong!!.? What if I remember the day when I missed my bus and got irritated?….. Oh, My God…. What if, What if, What if, What if…. the list is endless….

Just think what would happen if those feelings/emotions which we under went that particular day was still remembered by us!!(I am sure every body would have undergone these common phase one or the other day)

Whether a small instance which seems un-important and funny today or whether an instance which had/has great impact on our life has to be forgotten if it does not keep us happy! So mind you, It is sometime good to forget things…..

Oh! As I am writing this I have forgotten to have my dinner….. (Something which I have to remember daily :-)

What's life without you?

Not everybody, every day remembers you. But I know how important you are to me and to all. I wonder why we won’t talk about you much, I know you cannot be described in words but everything is nothing without you.

I know better about you than you know yourself. I like you because you are so much un-predictable but yet in-valuable.

At some point in time I am sure you will be considered a common factor between me and others. Hey, Why do you want me to keep guessing?; To consider you to be common factor I have to wait for few days in some cases, I have to wait for few months in some cases, I have to wait for few years in some cases and in some rare, strange cases I have to wait through out my life…. Hope you are constant, but it is fine until you are forever.

Oh my God! How do you manage to dominate everybody’s life so much without any objections from any individuals? (And people welcome you for that).

Tell me, how on earth can you be so powerful? You are supreme among the powers that rule the world! You make love meaning less without you, you make friendship base less without you, you make prayers to be un-answered without you, you even will not allow livings to experience a good-relationship without you. This is actually too much but Still I like you…. Because I cannot live without you.

Any where, any time, any way you are always welcome to my life! Keep going

Now, permit me to announce your name to the world….

Yes, you are none other than ‘‘Trust’’

Teacher and teachings

I got ready to the school and wished my husband a ‘Good day’ and said, ‘Oh! My God, it’s been 5 years since I joined the school as a teacher. He said ‘So you are one of the best students from 5 years now’ as we both knew ‘The best teacher is the best student’….

My School is educational hub which educates the seed (Nursery) and grows it to a teen age plant(SSLC). Not Bad, I thought; I am 30 minutes early to the school (Usually I reach only 5 minutes before the prayers). Sat on the chair inside the staff room, had a cursory look over the news paper…. Later within 15-20 minutes so many interesting events caught my eyes….

n I could see a little girl holding a flower and giving it to the teacher, once the teacher said ‘Thanks’ and patted her, the world was in her hands… I am sure earning few lakhs a month after she grows up will not make her so happy….
n Few children were sharing their breakfast, it seemed as though every child enjoyed the friend’s food better than his/hers.
n Within few minutes the colour dressed cute boy was surrounded by friends. Obviously, the Birthday boy and has lots of chocolates in the hand!
n For a minute, I wondered, ‘Are there so many games to play?’…. I could see kids playing ‘Ring a ring a roses’, ‘kalla police’, ‘ Skipping’, ‘Hide and seek’, ‘Fire in the mountain run run run’ Oops!! Few games which I never played nor heard of…. Also, Serious practice of ‘Throw ball’, ‘Cricket’, ‘Volley Ball’, ‘Kho-kho’ from high school students were part of my observation.
n The common sight of ‘Secret’ telling among the kids was also not missed out…. I saw a girl whispering the ‘secret’ to her friend in the ears even though I could find no body around them
n I over heard the conversation between the 2 kids(I guess U.K.G students). One said, ‘I am ‘say’ with you and never ever will be ‘two’ again…. And the other boy was ready with a chocolate for him. (Ha ha, I really wonder how powerful these ‘two’ , ‘say’ words are…. To be frank, being a teacher I don’t even know how to spell these 2 words rightly in this context)…..

Without my knowledge there was a ‘Smile’ on my face…. I don’t know about others but I was part of all these little events when I was young…. I don’t even dare to ask people if they have experienced all these in their ‘child hood’, if they have not then ‘A teacher’ will be called ‘childish’, I don’t want to take this riskJ…. But, something tells me, no matter how the time changes, these will be part of kids life.

It was not all over….
I could see few future nation builders in the same campus. ‘The high school students’! How and when did they enter into such a different world from the ‘World of kids’? They were busy discussing academic subjects, current affairs, elections conducted within school, regarding new vehicles in the market, movies, film stars, a hotel to go for a treat after the school, their first love, their crushes, exams, model question papers, inter school cricket competition etc etc…. Fun filled yet constructive, powerful talk and thoughts!

‘Tring, ‘Tring’, the bell rang and I mechanically joined the group of teachers in the assembly hall for the ‘prayers’ to start the ‘Good day’.

I have always been advised from my dear one to stop thinking but the thought of those 15-20 minutes was carried along with me to my home. I sat in the balcony with a cup of ‘coffee’ and thought, school is such a important place in one’s life and also the teachers….

As far as I am concerned, I have found my teachers not only in my school but in other places as well. I always found a teacher in a friend, in parents, in husband, in collogues, in neighbors, in a car driver who taught me driving, in seniors, in juniors, in children, in strangers, in animals, in birds….(the list continues, because I never thought being a student is inferior as I know ‘the best teacher is the best student’ and ‘the best student is the best teacher’)

Teaching for me is never a teaching which is thought formally it is just a lecture. The teachings for lifetime may come as casually and as unexpectedly. To recollect a few….

*My closest of friends, very very casually said this sentence once in our college days (I am sure even she won’t remember it now)…. She said, “It is the same hands that hug your husband and it is the same hands that hug your child…. All is in your mind!!!!”…. Think of it….
* I remember, First day of my first job. One of my seniors told me “Interest to learn and the commitment to work will take you to heights…. Don’t get tensed if you are new to some thing, if you don’t know now, you will definitely know it the next day!”…. Don’t you think it holds good for everything in life?
* The teachings from my parents “If you cannot do good to someone, don’t atleast do bad”
* Now, the teachings from my husband
--“Race against yourself and be the best competitor for yourself. Grow up, be better than yesterday and see where you reach….
--“In life, use the ‘past’ is like a ‘rare view mirror, look forward to drive, if you constantly look at the ‘rare view mirror’and drive, you will crash!
--His thought in my words, “Shut up and eat what you get, no comments on food, please”
--“Enjoy the ‘Black forest’ which is there in the hand rather than cribbing over a small cola/lolly which you used to eat….
--“Harsh but truth, ‘It is you, you and only you… always”
-- “Don’t assume things
--“Think it over, ‘what have we done to the society?” (This one surprised me and also always scares me…. ‘If such grown ups think like this then where will I go?’….
--“Read, read and read…. Acquire knowledge”

These are only very very few and will be thought only once…. The teaching continues but you will never know from whom, when and where….

Suddenly, I saw the time, Oops! Its already 7 P.M….. I came inside my room from the balcony, saw the photo of God hanged over the wall and prayed “God! Help me in realizing and acting like what has been taught.…. Teach, teach and teach me, always”

I went out to open the main door after hearing the sound ‘Tak, tak’….

“My teachers, you will be silently saluted, may be not always but atleast once”
